Tompkins Robotics announced the launch of its new tSortPost, a pedestal AMR for parcel sortation and the newest member of the tSort product family.

Tompkins Robotics announced the launch of its tSortPost, the company’s newest Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) for parcel sortation. The robot underwent rigorous rounds of development and testing, according to the company, and serves as the newest member of the tSort product family.

Tompkins hopes that it will offer its clients more options in accomplishing their dynamic and comprehensive requirements for parcel sortation.

What tSortPost means for the sortation industry

Tompkins said that as flexible and mobile as its current tSort offerings are, the company wanted to provide a product that utilizes even less infrastructure with an even quicker deployment for parcel sortation in last mile, regional hubs, and fulfillment and distribution centers. The tSortPost has an adjustable post that allows for sortation into containers at a variety of heights while running on the floor of the facility.

This means users can deploy a new sortation system in a facility with almost no infrastructure, relying only on fiducial markers, scanning stations and destination bins around the perimeter.

“I am excited about what this launch means for the sortation industry,” said Jim Serstad, VP of robotics engineering at Tompkins Robotics. “We are consistently evaluating the needs of the market, and we’ve identified that there is a gap in efficient and reliable AMRs for parcel sortation. tSortPost is the perfect solution, bringing numerous benefits including flexibility, accuracy and speed while using minimal infrastructure.

One of the features of tSortPost is its customizable design, allowing warehouses to configure the robot to adapt to their specific operational needs. It offers:

  • Customizable sortation options: Choose between cross belt top and tilt tray configurations, with height adjustment with the ability to transport up to 20 kg loads.
  • Tailored cross belt sizes: Customize the size of the cross belt or tilt tray, compatible with a 650mm grid or larger.
  • High productivity: Automated induction options and manual induction uses, dual streams of robots allowing higher induction rates per operator.
  • Cost savings and ease of maintenance: Eliminates the need for fixed infrastructure such as conveyors, hard-wired electrical and platforms making the system more affordable, flexible, less obstructive and easier to maintain, according to the company.
  • Container delivery options: The tSortPost can be utilized as a tote or carton delivery system to move containers around a warehouse, or to feed a sortation system such as the tSort system or some other order consolidation system.
  • Advanced transcend software: Powered by the Transcend software suite, ensuring performance and integration with existing systems.

The name tSortPost has a dual meaning, referring to its pedestal design and its suitability for postal sortation. Whether it’s sorting the parcels into bins, wire containers, gaylords, or bags, tSortPost can handle it.

“tSortPost is poised to significantly impact the industry by providing an innovative and efficient solution to the complex challenges of parcel sortation,” said Mike Futch, CEO of Tompkins Robotics. “This launch adds to our extensive sortation abilities through our tSort product line which delivers an unparalleled solution set designed to empower businesses worldwide, driving operational excellence and productivity.”
