Seegrid Corp., which makes autonomous mobile robots for material handling, today announced that Ernst & Young LLP has named Seegrid CEO Jim Rock an Entrepreneur of the Year 2021 national finalist. Rock was selected from a pool of more than 200 regional Entrepreneur of the Year award winners from 185 companies across the U.S.

Seegrid combines autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), enterprise software, and services for connected materials handling automation. With millions of autonomous production miles driven and zero personnel safety incidents, the Pittsburgh-based company said its Palion AMRs are reliable, flexible, and proven.
The world’s largest manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics companies rely on Seegrid to safely automate material flows in highly complex environments, said the company. It provides support from project design through deployment, change management, user training, and data-driven consultation for optimize material flows.
EY recognizes leading entrepreneurs
Ernst & Young (EY) said its prestigious business award program “recognizes the endeavors of entrepreneurs who create the products and services that define how we live, work, and play, as well as those designed to better the communities they serve.”
A panel of independent judges composed of entrepreneurs from around the U.S. selected Rock as a finalist. The candidates were evaluated based on their entrepreneurial leadership, talent management, and financial performance.
Other core contributions and attributes included societal impact, originality, and the degree of difficulty in navigating and overcoming obstacles to make their companies successful, said EY.
The Entrepreneur of the Year program is intended to engages entrepreneurs with insights and experiences that foster growth. It connects visionary leaders with their peers to strengthen entrepreneurship around the world, said EY.
The firm added that Entrepreneur of the Year “is the first and only truly global awards program of its kind.” The award celebrates entrepreneurs through regional and national awards programs in more than 145 cities in over 60 countries. National overall winners go on to compete for the title.
Seegrid has a year of strong growth
Seegrid said the Ernst & Young nomination follows a year of growth and momentum, in which Interact Analysis named it the leading U.S. mobile robot provider for its AMRs and intelligent automation.
The technology company also rapidly expanded its product portfolio and released several enhancements. Seegrid recently added a robotics-as-a-service (RaaS) subscription model for its AMRs.
Seegrid also premiered the Seegrid Palion Lift AMR, its first autonomous lift truck, which includes 3D perception. The robot is available to select customers through the Seegrid Technology Early-Access Program (STEP).
