Automation systems for person-to-goods picking provider Locus Robotics recently announced its autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) have picked four billion units across its global customer deployments.
This latest achievement comes 28 weeks after reaching three billion picks, which Locus said underscores its rapid growth and expansion, along with the rapidly-increasing adoption of its AI-enabled automation systems for warehouse operations globally.
“This is a truly momentous moment for everyone associated with Locus Robotics - from our global team of employees around the world to our expanding base of customers,” said Rick Faulk, Locus Robotics CEO. “Reaching the four billion milestone in record time demonstrates the incredible momentum we’re generating in warehouse automation.”
Exponential growth of Locus person-to-goods pick rate
From the launch of Locus Robotics in 2015 to its first billion picks took nearly seven years. Then, just 11 months later in August 2023, the two-billion-pick milestone was achieved, followed by three billion picks some 33 weeks later in April 2024.
Locus said its rapid growth pace illustrates the demand that customers worldwide have for advanced robotics systems across the supply chain.
“Reaching four billion picks in such a compressed time frame isn't just a milestone for Locus Robotics - it's a clear indicator of how rapidly warehouse automation is becoming essential to modern supply chain operations,” said Reuben Scriven, Interact Analysis research manager.
“The accelerating pace between each billion-pick milestone demonstrates both the scalability of the person-to-goods solution - such as those offered by Locus Robotics - and the growing adoption of AMR technology across the logistics sector,” Scriven added. “What's particularly noteworthy is how this achievement reflects the evolution of human-robot collaboration in warehouses, where technology enhances rather than replaces human capabilities.”
Locus Park opens as new home for business and operations
In addition to the four-billion-pick milestone, Locus is also celebrating the opening of its new global headquarters, Locus Park, in Wilmington, Mass.
“Locus Park represents our commitment to innovation and our confidence in the future,” said Rick Faulk, Locus Robotics CEO. “It's a launchpad for the next generation of robotics and AI solutions that will redefine warehouse efficiency and empower workforces worldwide. As we stand at the forefront of industrial automation, we're not just leading the industry but transforming it.”
The 157,000 square foot Locus Park facility is now fully operational and serves as the nexus for nearly 200 New England-based employees who are driving the company's mission to deliver robotics systems for global business supply chains. Locus Robotics said this milestone facility represents its commitment to pushing the boundaries of warehouse automation technology.
“As we settle into this world-class facility, we're energized by our unprecedented growth, consistently surpassing our own productivity records,” Faulk said. “Our exponential growth reflects not just our success but the rapidly evolving needs of the global supply chain industry. With every pick, we're not just moving products but the entire industry forward.”
The new Locus Park headquarters boasts an expansive research and development, engineering, and testing space, which Locus said provides an ideal environment for its team to advance the company's award-winning, AI-driven products.
In addition, the facility handles all robotics manufacturing, shipping, and administration functions. Locus said the new facility positions it to continue revolutionizing supply chains across 3PL, industrial, retail, and healthcare sectors, while setting new benchmarks for operational efficiency and workforce empowerment.
