IACMI members and members of other Manufacturing USA Institutes are invited to be among the first U.S. manufacturing leaders to learn about a new call for the creation of a “National Manufacturing Guard” designed to ensure a resilient, robust national supply chain and manufacturing base in the future.
Scheduled for Sept. 29 and October 1, the two identical online sessions will feature Institute leaders focusing on:
- The formation of a National Manufacturing Guard
- The establishment of a National Supply Chain Data Exchange
- The formation of a Technology Corps
- A Resilient Manufacturing Advisory Council
“The COVID-19 pandemic crisis response has shown the challenges for the U.S. manufacturing supply chain in meeting emergency and surge response needs,” IACMI CEO John Hopkins says. “Greater adaptability and resilience of the domestic manufacturing base is necessary for our national security and global competitiveness.”
National Manufacturing Guard Background
In response to the dimpact of the COVID-19 pandemic on U.S. manufacturing, including the challenges uncovered related to the security and responsiveness of manufacturing supply chains in our country, the CEOs of all 15 Manufacturing USA Institutes have created a decisive set of strategies and recommendations, including calling for the creation of a National Manufacturing Guard.
The Resilient Manufacturing Task Force Act, introduced in July by U.S. Sens. Chris Coons (Del.) and Marco Rubio (Fla.) and U.S. Representatives Haley Stevens (Mich.) and Troy Balderson (Ohio), similarly addresses these challenges and seeks to “reinforce the U.S. Supply Chain against future disruptions.”
COVID-19 Response & Recovery
Under the Institutes’ leadership, manufacturers in critical medical, food and consumer goods supply chains are contributing wit technology providers and national political leaders on these efforts. Their input helped shape the creation of specific initiatives that will enable ability to learn from the recent past and ensure aggressive work towards a much more resilient supply chain and manufacturing base in the future.

There will be two identical, online 30-minute events to share insights and strategies with the national manufacturing ecosystem. Those interested can register for one of the events detailed as follows.
The first event is scheduled for September 29 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. ET and will feature as speakers RAPID CEO Bill Grieco, former ARM CEO and current board member Gary Fedder, and NIMBL CEO Kelvin Lee, who will moderate the session.
