Lattice Semiconductor Corp. and MassRobotics today announced a partnership to advance robotics application development in the innovation, startup, and global robotics ecosystems. Lattice Semiconductor said its strategic leadership in low-latency, low-power, and small devices will enable the partnership to be a catalyst in transforming the robotics ecosystem.
“We are excited to collaborate with MassRobotics to engage with the startup community, academia, and leading research centers to accelerate their application development,” stated Matt Dobrodziej, vice president of segment marketing and business development at Lattice Semiconductor.
“Our award-winning, low-power FPGAs [field-programmable gate arrays] are designed to offer leadership in power efficiency, real-time performance, and reliability in the smallest footprints.”
He added that the FPGAs “enable simplified in-field updates that help designers speed time to market and extend their system’s lifespan, making them ideally suited for industrial automation and robotics applications.”
Lattice designs FPGAs for 'future-proofing'
Lattice Semiconductor said its low-power FPGAs and application-specific systems can help customers keep pace with constantly evolving technology. The Hillsboro, Ore.-based company said it solves problems across the network, from the edge to the cloud.
Lattice claimed that its technology, long-standing relationships, and commitment to support enable customers to quickly and easily create innovations for a “smart, secure, and connected world.” It said its technology allows developers and engineers to future-proof their designs in the growing communications, computing, industrial, automotive, and consumer markets, said Lattice.
“Lattice Semiconductor is a great strategic partner to add to MassRobotics’ portfolio of companies accelerating the robotics industry,” said Tom Ryden, executive director of MassRobotics. “Their FPGAs and solution stacks make it easy for designers to incorporate. We’re looking forward to having their expertise in working with our innovative community and seeing all the collaborative outcomes that will no doubt result from it.”
MassRobotics Winter Challenge to come
Boston-based MassRobotics said it is the “first and largest independent nonprofit robotics startup escalator in the world whose mission is to grow and support robotics innovators and entrepreneurs.”
The organization is dedicated to building the robotics and Internet of Things (IoT) cluster in Massachusetts. MassRobotics provides entrepreneurs and startups with shared workspaces; networking opportunities; and resources to develop, prototype, test, and commercialize their products.
MassRobotics plans to include components such as Lattice's semiconductors and technologies from other partners in its winter challenge. The competition will call on university students and teams to create visually inspiring robotic creations that accomplish useful functions.
The MassRobotics Winter Challenge will allow the robotics community to highlight the potential, capabilities, and uses of each team's innovations. The organization plans to announce more details about the challenge at the end of the year. It will begin in January 2023, and finalists will show their entries at the Robotics Summit in Boston in May 2023.
