Mobile robot provider Geekplus Technology Co. has continued its European expansion. The company this week opened its regional headquarters at Sci-Tech Daresbury in Cheshire, U.K. In addition, Geek+ has deployed mobile robots at the Madrid distribution center of e-commerce delivery provider Paack Holdings Inc.
“The U.K. is home to some of our most exciting projects, including large-scale automated parcel sorting and multi-site goods-to-person robotics deployments,” stated Brian Lee, head of U.K. at Geek+. “Logistics operators here, and retailers in particular, recognize the game-changing value brought by autonomous mobile robots and are eager to upgrade their operations. We are delighted to have a full-fledged office to serve our clients here.”
Founded in 2015, Geek+ provides autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and artificial intelligence for warehouse and supply chain management. The Beijing-based company said it has more than 500 customers. It also has more than 1,500 employees and regional offices in San Diego, Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Düsseldorf, Germany.
Geek+ U.K. office to include tech demo center
Geek+ said its new office is not only a home base for its U.K. sales, engineering, and service teams, but it also features a technology demonstration center where several AMRs are on permanent display. The company recently partnered with Körber Supply Chain for South America and Systemex Automation for North America.
After entering the European market as recently as 2019, Geek+ said it has successfully deployed robots in more than 30 countries with major retailers, e-commerce enterprises, and third-party logistics providers (3PLs). It noted that it has deployed over a dozen projects in the U.K. alone.
Geek+ said the Sci-Tech Daresbury business park is an ideal setting, with “some of the most exciting and innovative companies in the U.K.” At least 30 Geekplus employees, known internally as “Geekers,” will be based in the new headquarters.
“I've been on this journey with Geek+ for three years, and I have seen exciting projects across this whole country,” said Simon Houghton, U.K. head of sales at Geekplus. “This office and its demonstration center gives us a central hub where we can show people what we do and how our AMRs can take their businesses to the next level.”
Open to all visitors, the demonstration center will include Geek+'s goods-to-person P-800 picking robot, which is suitable for connecting inventory with warehouse employees. It will also show the award-winning RoboShuttle, which enables high-density storage, and the S-20C, a sorting robot capable of connecting the disparate elements of a production or distribution line.
Paack makes major AMR deployment in Madrid
Barcelona, Spain-based Paack delivers several million orders per month from 150 international customers. They include 17 of the 20 largest e-commerce retailers in Spain, including Amazon, Apple, Inditex, AliExpress, Nike, and Nespresso. The company offers coverage in more than 100 European cities.
In January, Paack secured $225 million in Series D funding. It said it is scaling up its e-commerce operations and digitalizing its logistics process to better support customers all over Europe.
The company's Madrid distribution center (DC) covers more than 27,000 sq. m (290,000 sq. ft.) and handles the distribution of parcels to over 60 cities in Spain. Paack's facility is divided into two sections: a mezzanine level for sorting and a picking section on the ground floor. Sorting robots move parcels via chutes to racks on the ground floor, where picking robots move the parcels to the operators.
Paack said the project with Geek+ is one of the largest in its history. Geek+ has deployed more than 270 sorting and picking robots in what it claimed was the largest AMR project in Europe.
Geek+ said its AMRs handle last-mile delivery for locations in and around the Spanish capital, while cross-docking systems prepare parcels for more distant destinations. The new system allows Paack to guarantee 99.99% accuracy in order fulfillment while handling over 10,000 deliveries per hour, said Geek+.
