CNC Software announced that the 2019 Wildest Parts Competition has been revamped this year as the Masters of CAM Wildest Parts Competition, sponsored by Mastercam. Masters of CAM is an online platform for Mastercam users to submit stories about their experience and skills using CAD/CAM software to design and machine parts.
New for 2019, at least one Masters of CAM story submission is required for each part entered. The competition was also expanded, adding a new division for professional Mastercam users to enter parts they created for the chance to win cash prizes and more.
The challenge is simple. Create a bold, original item using Mastercam that shows off your design and machining skills. The Wildest Parts Competition accepts entries in four divisions:
- Secondary—open to individual students at high school level of education;
- Postsecondary—open to individual students at college/university level of education;
- Teams—open to groups of students at any level of education; teams participating with SAE, FIRST Robotics, NASA HUNCH, NRL, and other organizations are encouraged to enter parts in this division; and
- Professional—open to anyone with professional manufacturing experience; instructors are encouraged to enter parts in this division.
“We get some very interesting, creative parts to judge,” says Peter Mancini, education product manager at CNC Software. “Last year, the winning students were Caelen DeVall from Hamilton High School in Hamilton, Montana, who made a didgeridoo, and Andrew Nicosia from Erie Community College in Williamsville, New York, who made a vacuum engine.
“In general, we look for high quality, original parts that haven’t been made before or parts that are familiar yet feature a unique, new design. We like eye-catching designs that would look nice on display because we do show them off at trade shows in a special case. We get many comments on them by people all over the country. They demonstrate how impressive and innovative people can be with Mastercam, so we encourage entrants to really think beyond the norm. They may have made something like that during the past school year, or in their shop, that would qualify.”
Entries must be postmarked by June 28, 2019 and sent to: Wildest Parts Competition, CNC Software, Inc., 671 Old Post Road, Tolland, CT 06084. An entry form must accompany each part entered in the competition. Entry forms, additional contest information, and support materials are available here: www.mastercam.com/wildestparts.
