Amazon has launched its Prime Air drone delivery service in Phoenix’s West Valley, enabling same-day delivery of over 50,000 products to eligible customers.

Amazon has officially launched its Prime Air drone delivery service in Arizona’s West Valley, bringing same-day deliveries to eligible customers in the Phoenix Metro Area. From Amazon’s Tolleson, AZ, facility, the new MK30 drones will deliver items under five pounds to nearby homes in less than an hour, offering over 50,000 items, including household goods, tech supplies, and beauty products.

This launch marks Amazon’s first fully integrated hybrid facility combining fulfillment, sorting, and delivery from one site. The Tolleson site is part of Amazon's push for faster delivery times by locating these hubs near major metro areas and linking them to larger fulfillment centers, ensuring a continuous product flow. With Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) flights, Amazon’s drones can operate safely outside a pilot’s immediate view, enhancing delivery speed and efficiency in suburban areas.

The MK30 drone, developed by Amazon’s Prime Air engineering team, represents significant advancements, flying twice as far, operating 50% quieter than its predecessor, and designed to withstand rain. Initially tested in College Station, Texas, the MK30 is engineered to navigate obstacles and safely deliver to heavily populated areas, meeting rigorous FAA safety standards.

“We’re proud to have Amazon’s innovative presence in our community,” said Tolleson Mayor Juan F. Rodriguez. “Amazon’s commitment to innovation exemplifies the entrepreneurial spirit that drives our city forward.” Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego added, “This shift toward zero-emission package delivery will help reduce local pollution and further cement our city as a hotbed for the innovative technology of tomorrow.”

Since its debut in 2022, Amazon's drone program has completed thousands of deliveries in less than an hour. With plans to expand the service across additional U.S. cities and into Europe by 2025, Amazon continues to focus on swift, sustainable, and tech-driven solutions to meet consumer demands.
