Airbiquity Inc. and Cyngn Inc. last week announced that they are partnering to integrate Cyngn's DriveMod autonomy system with Airbiquity's OTAmatic over-the-air software management platform. The companies said their technologies will enable organizations to invest in autonomous vehicle technology that can generate value immediately and be prepared for future challenges.
The global material handling equipment market will reach $200 billion (U.S.) by 2027, estimated Global Market Insights Inc. Industrial autonomous vehicle (AV) solutions often require companies to replace their entire existing vehicle fleets, said the partners. Airbiquity and Cyngn claimed that their technology stack will allow vehicle fleets to evolve into autonomous systems that can be updated and refined over time, leading to increased autonomous fleet management efficiency and uptime.

Airbiquity's OTAmatic manages software, data
Seattle-based Airbiquity provides automotive telematics technology. The company has developed cloud-based connected vehicle software. Working with Airbiquity, automakers and automotive suppliers have deployed highly scalable, manageable, and secure connected vehicle service programs for millions of vehicles meeting the needs of their customers in over 60 countries around the world.
Airbiquity's OTAmatic is an over-the-air (OTA) system that securely orchestrates and automates connected vehicle software updates and data management from the cloud. Businesses can use OTAmatic to plan and execute OTA campaigns with vehicle and device targeting, policy and privacy controls, customizable user communications, and deployment flexibility, said the company.

Cyngn's DriveMod provides autonomy
Menlo Park, Calif.-based Cyngn said it has been operating autonomous vehicles in production environments since 2017. The company's investors include Andreessen Horowitz, Benchmark Capital, Index Ventures, Qualcomm, and Telefonica.
Cyngn described its DriveMod flagship product as “an end-to-end autonomy solution that can be flexibly deployed on multiple vehicle types in various environments.” It delivers intelligent analytics, artificial intelligence, advanced safety features, and self-driving capabilities for industrial vehicles.
DriveMod is vehicle-agnostic, working across all kinds of industrial vehicles, regardless of age, vehicle type, or manufacturer, claimed Cyngn. The technology can allow fleets of all shapes and sizes to drive autonomously via a simple retrofit or by being embedded directly into original equipment manufacturer (OEM) vehicles at assembly, it said.
Over time and with more data, DriveMod will develop a deeper understanding of the domains in which it operates, according to Cyngn. This information, combined with OTAmatic's over-the-air software updates, will ensure that AV fleets continue to generate novel value and efficiencies, said the partners.
