Sarcos Technology and Robotics Corp. today announced that it has fulfilled an order from Atlantas Marine Ltd. for two Guardian Sea Class robotic systems and a support package. The Salt Lake City, Utah-based company said it delivered the systems in the third quarter of 2023.
“This sale to Atlantas is an important milestone that demonstrates Sarcos’ ability to bring complex robotic systems to market and shows the important role the Guardian Sea Class robot can play in challenging underwater environments,” stated Matt Vogt, chief revenue officer at Sarcos.
“We work to provide job-critical solutions to our customers that also prevent injury and save lives in the harshest and most inhospitable environments.”
Guardian designed for safer, faster operations
The Guardian Sea Class is a teleoperated, dual-armed manipulation system with six-function dexterity per arm and performs in depths of up to 1 km (3,280 ft.). It is electronically driven, which eliminates the added weight, size, and expense of hydraulic power unit systems, said Sarcos.
As a result, maintenance costs and the risk of system downtime are reduced, the company claimed. The Guardian Sea Class system also reduces the need for divers to work in dangerous underwater conditions, allowing for safer, faster operations, Sarcos added.
The company said its mobile robots and software promise to “redefine human possibilities and are designed to enable the safest, most productive workforce in the world.” Sarcos asserted that its systems “address the challenging, unstructured, industrial environments for markets that require a high degree of accuracy, efficiency and can benefit from task autonomy.”
VideoRay integration offers flexibility
The integration of Sarcos' Guardian Sea Class with VideoRay’s Defender remotely operated vehicle (ROV) allows for operations in currents up to 4 knots (4.6 mph/7.4 kph). The combination provides power, maneuverability, and upgradeability to perform a range of complex and precise tasks using handheld tools and sensors, said Sarcos.
Vogt said the combined system will offer “the most advanced underwater inspection and intervention capabilities on the market, driving down organizational maintenance costs and protecting human capital.”

Atlantas Marine specializes in underwater robotic equipment and services to military and non-military customers. For more than 22 years, the privately owned company has been the U.K. dealer for VideoRay.
It supplies the VideoRay Defender ROV, its own Storm camera, and now the Sarcos Guardian Sea Class robotic arms. Atlantas is ISO9001, 14001, and 45001-certified, and it provides after-sales technical support, training, and maintenance services.
