Just as collaborative robot arms become useful for different applications depending on end-of-arm tooling, so too can mobile robots gain capabilities with new accessories. ROEQ recently launched a module and cart that will more than double the payload of Mobile Industrial Robots' MiR250.
The TMS-C500 Ext module and the S-Cart500 Ext cart work together to increase MiR250’s payload from 250 to 500 kg (551 to 1,102 lb), according to ROEQ. The TMS-C500 Ext is placed on top of the autonomous mobile robot (AMR) and slides into position under the S-Cart500 Ext.
Founded in 2017, ROEQ develops and manufactures mobile robot equipment (MRE). The Vissenbjerg, Denmark-based company sells its products through more than 100 distributors to nearly 40 countries.
Accessories elevate AMR loads
The TMS-C500 Ext top module also allows Mobile Industrial Robots' platform to carry loads that are 1.2 m (47.2 in.) in length, according to ROEQ. The S-Cart 500 Ext. provides added stability, said ROEQ and MiR.
The new products also include built-in features to comply with safety regulations, according to ROEQ. It said the module has an easy-to-access emergency stop button to help avoid injuries.
The TMS-C500 Ext comes with ROEQ‘s Assist software and integrates with Mobile Industrial Robots' interface.
The AMR can pick up or drop off the S-Cart without the need for designated floor space or docking stations. This allows businesses to flexibly use their AMRs in an efficient logistics setup where the robots are never left idling, said the company.
“We bring standard off-the-shelf robotic equipment to market that is well-tested,” said Michael Ejstrup Hansen, managing director of ROEQ. “We’ve put our knowledge of designing cart systems for AMRs into this new solution, raising the bar for what cart systems can handle while leveraging the full potential of the powerful MiR250 robot.”
A leaner, more scrappy mobile robot
Mobile Industrial Robots said it designed the MiR250 to be smaller and more flexible than its other mobile robots, such as the MiR500 and the MiR1000.
The Odense, Denmark-based company said it designed the robot to maneuver in tight spaces as narrow as 80 cm (31 in.). That includes doorways, elevators, and slim passages. MiR claimed that the MiR250 can work around the clock and that it is simple to set up.
In January, Mobile Industrial Robots announced that its sales increased by 41% in 2021 in comparison with 2020. The company noted that it set a record in December 2021, with close to 300 robots shipped, more than in any previous month.
Attendees at the MODEX 2022 materials handling show in Atlanta will get the chance to see the new MRE in action at ROEQ’s Booth B3003 from March 28 to 31.
