Mobile robot power-in-motion provider CaPow demonstrated its Genesis charging system at MODEX 2024. The trade show was held March 11-14 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, GA.
As part of the demonstration, the Genesis system powered two mobile robots from different manufacturers while in motion. CaPow’s charging-in-motion systems use supercapacitors to ensure adequate electricity pickup. Genesis can be installed on new robots as well as retrofitted onto existing autonomous mobile robots (AMRs).
CaPow said it reduces upfront automation costs by removing the need to invest in additional fleets, charging stations, or third-party logistics providers. With constant energy delivery in place, CaPow said it provides the flexibility to optimize not just robots, but an entire operational area.
CaPow believes charging downtime can be eliminated entirely, not just minimized
CaPow said its operational model not only eliminates the need for extra robots to compensate for charging periods, but also frees up operational space previously occupied by charging stations. CaPow representatives said their system can also reduce operational weight by reducing or eliminating onboard batteries.
“We are excited to showcase what we have achieved at MODEX, to enable people who have long believed the vision of eliminating charging downtime to be a dream to see that it is becoming a reality,” said Mor Peretz, CEO and co-founder of CaPow. “Genesis introduces a new operational efficiency equation, redefining the industry standard to be 100% uptime for 100% of your fleet. With the demand for robot-fueled operations growing across all industries, from logistics to manufacturing to retail and more, the costs of not having the robots you paid for available for you when you want them has never been greater.”
CaPow said that compared to stationary charging systems, its charging-in-motion systems can reduce the total cost of ownership by an average of 32% while decreasing operational losses related to automation by more than 50%.
