OSARO, which provides robots using machine learning, today announced that it has partnered with systems integrator Mission Design & Automation. The companies said they plan to develop and deploy a range of automated systems optimized for e-commerce fulfillment.

Founded in 2004, Mission Design & Automation designs, builds, and integrates custom automation for projects of all sizes and with varying levels of complexity. The Holland, Mich.-based integrator said it has developed systems for the automotive, construction, consumer goods, electronics, food and beverage, furniture, logistics, electronics, and medical device industries.
SightWorks to serve e-commerce needs
OSARO and Mission Design said their partnership will combine OSARO’s SightWorks vision and control software for robotics with Mission’s expertise in designing and deploying specialized systems. Mission said it has provided robots across a broad array of applications in warehouses and fulfillment centers, such as depalletizing, kitting, and bagging.
“E-commerce businesses and third-party logistics [3PL] service providers can now automate even the most challenging tasks that couple robot flexibility with the ability to learn how to identify, pick, and place any object,” said OSARO.
The two companies are targeting kitting applications, which combine multiple SKUs or products into one larger order that is packaged in a single box with a new SKU and shipped to a customer.

Mission joins OSARO partner program

OSARO said its Partners Alliance “offers one-stop access for businesses looking to deploy robotic solutions in their fulfillment operations.” The program provides a way for vendors of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), as well as integrators, distributors, 3PLs, and consultants to co-market unified solutions.
The partner program is designed to enable collaboration and optimize every stage of a customer’s purchasing and deployment processes, claimed OSARO. It said that its joint offerings with Mission can help businesses in the following ways:

OSARO said it provides piece-picking robots for e-commerce, where key challenges include high SKU inventories, complex packaging, and fragile items. The San Francisco-based company said its SightWorks machine learning technology provides the foundation for all its products.

It added that its intelligent systems enable goods-to-robot (G2R) use cases, which promise significant increases in warehouse productivity.
