The need for more economical processing of recyclable materials is growing worldwide, and robots and artificial intelligence can improve efficiency. AMP Robotics Corp. today announced that it has chosen REP-TEC Advanced Technologies as an official reseller and integrator for customers in the U.K. and Ireland. The Denver-based company has also hired Gary Ashburner as its European general manager to build out its infrastructure across the region.
“We’re seeing greater interest in and adoption of our technology in the U.S., with customers reordering our AI-guided robotic sorting systems to install in other facilities that they own,” said Ashburner. “This is generating a robust pipeline in the U.S. that’s being mirrored internationally, following the installation of our first robotic sorting system in Europe late last year.”
AMP said it has deployments across North America, Asia, and Europe. The company added that its technology can recover recyclables from municipal collection, precious commodities from electronic scrap, and high-value materials from construction and demolition debris.
AMP Robotics aims to modernize global recycling
AMP Robotics said it helping to modernize systems, increase recycling rates, and economically reclaim raw materials for the global supply chain. The AMP Cortex high-speed system automates the identification and sorting of recyclables from mixed material streams.
The company claimed that its AMP Neuron AI platform includes the largest known real-world dataset of recyclable materials for machine learning. It can classify more than 100 different categories and characteristics across single-stream recycling, e-scrap, and construction and demolition debris, said AMP Robotics. Neuron can reach an object-recognition run rate of more than 10 billion items annually, it said.
Neuron continuously trains itself by recognizing different colors, textures, shapes, sizes, patterns, and even brand labels to identify materials and their recyclability. Neuron then guides robots to pick and place the material to be recycled. Designed to run 24/7, all of this happens at superhuman speed with extremely high accuracy, said AMP Robotics.
AMP said its Clarity product provides data on what recyclable materials are captured and missed, helping businesses and manufacturers maximize resource recovery.
REP-TEC aids European expansion
REP-TEC said it specializes in the design, manufacture, installation, and support of a range of recycling solutions. The Dungannon, U.K.-based company's portfolio includes fully automatic balers, conveyor systems, compactors, and the AMP Cortex.
“We’ll be installing our first three AMP Cortex high-speed sorting systems later this summer,” said Colm Grimes, CEO of REP-TEC. “This will provide a great U.K. reference site with the ability to run material trials for interested parties.”
“We share a commitment to improving global resource efficiency and productivity with REP-TEC, and [we] look forward to working with an established leader that also embraces new technology and innovation as we extend our efforts to modernize and expand recycling infrastructure in Europe and globally,” said Ashburner, who will be based in the U.K. He will lead customer and partner acquisition, pre- and post-sales consulting, system design, supply, installation, training, and service.
AMP said its European expansion reflects strong year-over-year revenue growth and investment in operational scale made possible by its Series B funding round of $55 million (U.S.) at the beginning of the year. To further its market penetration, AMP is actively seeking to establish additional reseller partnerships in Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, and France.
