ABB Robotics, CMES Robotics Inc., and BHS Robotics Inc. will be working together at the Automate 2022 trade show in June to show off their new package depalletization system.
The system is made up of CMES Robotics vison sensors and artificial intelligence software, BHS Robotics’ depalletizing platform, and ABB Robotics’ IRB 2600 ID robot arm.
The companies said their systems allows a robot to grasp randomly placed packages of different sizes and weights from any pallet or conveyor.
They added that the depalletization solution addresses two problematic areas for many organizations—the labor shortage and worker injuries related to stressful and tedious manual labor.
A look at the companies behind the system
BHS Robotics makes vision-guided pick-and-place systems. The Hanover Park, Ill.-based company, formerly Chicago Electric, said it has systems installed worldwide.
BHS said it has extensive experience with a broad range of innovative Industry 4.0 technologies and provides custom automation for a wide range of industries including corrugated, e-commerce, logistics, packaging, medical, automotive, and heavy-duty manufacturing.
Powered by AI, CMES Robotics said it enables 3D vision for factory robots. The Redmond, Wash.-based company added that is AI vision software enables robots to recognize unstructured, flexible, or deformed objects, and pick them up for loading and unloading.
CMES added that its vision software has been deployed worldwide for random palletization and depalletization along with void-filling applications. The company's automation is designed to support warehouse, logistics, and supply chain operations. CMES Robotics is the North American subsidiary of Seoul, South Korea-based CMES Inc.
Auburn Hills, Mich.-based ABB Robotics & Discrete Automation provides machine automation and digital services for a diverse range of industries, from automotive and electronics to logistics.
As one of the world’s leading robotics and machine automation suppliers, ABB Group said it has shipped more than 500,000 robots.
The company said it helps customers of all sizes to increase productivity, flexibility, and simplicity and to improve output quality. It added that it supports customers' transition towards the connected and collaborative factory of the future.
