Theobroma Systems Design and Consulting GmbH yesterday released the JAGUAR SBC-RK3588-AMR, a single-board computer designed for use in robust and reliable autonomous mobile robots, or AMRs. Typical applications include industrial automation, agriculture and horticulture, construction, retail intralogistics, and hospitality, said the Vienna-based company. “On a single board, JAGUAR provides a cost-efficient and optimized processing platform for autonomous mobile robots to be produced in series,” stated Dr. Stefan Roth, managing director of Theobroma Systems, in a release. “It comes along with a board support package (BSP) that is optimally configured to the hardware and runs on Linux supported by Debian and…
BlueBotics SA this week said it will be a featured presenter at the 5th International Conference on Mobile Robots and Industrial Logistics and Warehousing Solutions, or CeMAT Asia 2023. The St. Sulpice, Switzerland-based company plans to lead an interactive keynote session on “Making AGVs & AMRs Work Together – 3 Interoperability Approaches Explained.” It will describe the recent surge of interest in the interoperability of automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), wrote Rachel Rayner, marketing and digital content manager at BlueBotics. BlueBotics will also explain the benefits of interoperability, describe the forces driving a surge of interest…
Improve Flexibility and Agility With Mobile Robots
Eureka! NVIDIA Corp. today said it has developed a new artificial intellience agent that can teach robots complex skills. The Santa Clara, Calif.-based company said that Eureka has trained a robotic hand to perform rapid pen-spinning tricks as fast as a human can. The prestidigitation, shown in the video above, is one of nearly 30 tasks that Eureka has taught robots by autonomously writing reward algorithms. Eureka has also taught robots to open drawers and cabinets, toss and catch balls, and manipulate scissors, among other tasks. NVIDIA Research today published the Eureka library of AI algorithms, so people can experiment…
Schneider Electric yesterday launched the Lexium Cobot, which is designed to work alongside humans and to move with dynamic torque and speed monitoring. “The launch of the Lexium Cobot represents a significant leap in the evolution of robotics,” said Hugo Lafontaine, vice president of Industrial Automation Canada at Schneider Electric, in a release. “Unlike traditional industrial robots that necessitate process integration from the outset, Lexium Cobots are purposefully engineered to collaborate seamlessly with workers.” “They deliver swift ROI [return on investment and] effortless integration, without the need for extensive process overhauls,” he added. “[They also] contribute to the enhancement of…

THIRA Robotics Co. this week said it has signed a memorandum of understanding, or MOU, with systems integrator DISHER. They plan to jointly bring a second-generation autonomous mobile robot, or AMR, to the U.S. market. THIRA Robotics said its new AMR can operate in facilities with complex conditions that were previously considered unfit for automation. It is designed to navigate imperfect floors, indoor/outdoor areas, chaotic spaces, and slopes. “DISHER will implement our customized AMR solutions in U.S. factories, warehouses, and hospitals that did not have a viable AMR option until now,” said Peter Kim, CEO of THIRA, in a release.…
Amazon.com Inc. uses many robots in addition to those it acquired with Kiva Systems a decade ago. The Seattle-based e-commerce company noted that it has more than 750,000 robots working with its employees to relieve them of repetitive tasks. Amazon today announced that it is launching a new robot to help fulfill customer orders for the upcoming holiday shopping season. It is also testing Agility Robotics' mobile manipulation system. The new system, Sequoia, is already operating at an Amazon fulfillment center in Houston. Based on a series of research and development efforts at Amazon, Sequoia integrates multiple robots to containerize…
Generative AI and “cloud-native” APIs and microservices are coming to the edge, said NVIDIA Corp. The company today announced major expansion to two frameworks in the NVIDIA Jetson platform for robotics and artificial intelligence on the edge: NVIDIA Isaac ROS has entered general availability, and it is expanding NVIDIA Metropolis on Jetson. “Generative AI is bringing the power of transformer models and large language models to virtually every industry,” wrote Amit Goel, director of product management for autonomous machines, in a blog post. “That reach now includes areas that touch edge, robotics, and logistics systems: defect detection, real-time asset tracking,…
Robot installations in Spain increased sharply last year after three years of declining or modest growth, according to a new report from HowToRobot.com. A focus on robotics implementation is supporting the growth in sales, said the “2023 Market Overview of Robot and Automation Companies in Spain.” “The global labor shortages and market uncertainty triggered by COVID have increased the need for automation solutions and integrators capable of serving the immediate needs of end users,” said Søren Peters, CEO of HowToRobot, in a release. Søren Peters, HowToRobot “In this environment, suppliers have to respond quickly and communicate how their solutions solve…
RobotLAB Inc. last week won the Innovation Award at the fifth annual Daytime Beauty Awards. The event, founded by Michele Elyzabeth, recognized industry leaders, scientists, doctors, and celebrity beauty brands, as well as the affect of artificial intelligence on the beauty, health, and wellness sectors. “We salute Elad and his team, including Abby [Brookshire, marketing brand manager], and Mitchell [Bergman, solutions engineer], for all of their efforts in teaching the importance of robots and the human connection,” said Pamela Price, executive producer of the Daytime Beauty Awards. “In a world where there is so much negativity surrounding AI and robotics,…
