…go to the ISO [International Organization for Standards], as MassRobotics is doing. With an international body, you can have more open discussion. Right now, there are many efforts with a few people in pockets. Funding, partnerships, and industry challenges Avidbots recently raised $70 million in Series C funding. How is its market expansion going? Molina: We'll soon expand our product portfolio and add-ons, and we're also expanding to new geographic areas. We're at a beautiful inflection point for robotics. We're still at the beginning, but be aware that with commoditization lowering the costs of robots, there will be explosive growth.…

MassRobotics is now accepting applications for its Jumpstart Fellowship Program. The Boston nonprofit started the program to help give girls in high school the opportunity to gain hands-on technical skills and learn about the robotics industry. This is the third time MassRobotics is putting on the program. Jumpstart focuses on many technical areas, from programming to design and simulation, to hands-on building, prototyping and testing, according to MassRobotics. A key part of the Jumpstart program is making sure these young women feel confident and empowered to enter the STEM field, it said. MassRobotics partners and other MA robotics companies will…

…with emerging interoperability standards such as VDA 5050 and MassRobotics' AMR Interoperability Standard. The company said it has long been committed to the open-source movement pushing the automation industry forward. It participated in last year’s release of a MassRobotics connector. Clearpath Robotics Inc. and InOrbit, with participation by Ekumen, have jointly contributed a new open-source package on Github. It allows any robot running on ROS2, the latest edition of the Robot Operating System, to comply with the European VDA 5050 interoperability standard for AMRs. Clearpath and InOrbit said they hope to accelerate industry adoption of robotics. OTTO Motors, a division…

…company, which Robotics 24/7 named as one of “10 MassRobotics resident startups to watch,” claimed that its system can reduce automation expenses by reducing the time for welders to train robots from weeks to hours without specialized knowledge. Scalable Robotics works to ease robot instruction In addition, Scalable Robotics said its technology can make automation more adaptable and cost-effective in today's highly competitive marketplace. A welder to teach a robot by pointing to where a weld should be applied, and the robot learns the path on its own, the company said. The platform includes a 3D camera in a protective…

BOSTON—At MassRobotics’ fifth annual Robot Block Party this weekend, the public had an opportunity to see and touch many of the robots developed and built in Massachusetts. The event was part of RoboBoston, which included a career fair last Friday. Approximately 5,000 people attended the Robot Block Party, according to Joyce Sidopoulos, co-founder and chief of operations at MassRobotics. Over 760 people registered for the Robotics and AI Technical Career Fair—even more than expected, she added. The Robot Block Party drew families from Boston’s growing Seaport District and beyond. “We’re just grateful to all our partners, and we hope the…

…companies and universities will showcase their latest technologies at MassRobotics' 5th annual Robot Block Party. Festo will bring its flying robotic dragonfly and swift to the family-friendly event. “Both flying robots were inspired by nature,” said a public relations representative for Festo. “The bionic dragonfly for the first time makes it possible for a single model to carry out more flight maneuvers than helicopters and motorized and non-motorized gliders combined. Fashioned after the fast-flying swift family of birds, the agile, maneuverable Festo BionicSwifts can fly loops and steep turns.” Esslingen, Germany-based Festo is a leading maker of pneumatic and electromechanical…
